Hamlet (Lithuanian) @ Globe Theatre
Globe2Globe Festival
A Shame it was only on a few nights
"You're seeing a play? In Lithuanian?" A comment most of my friends made then laughed about, but I do not regret it. Staged beautifully, this production is one of pure ice, and showcases the frigidity of emotions that Hamlet encounters throughout the piece. The most poignant, perhaps is a shattered-ice chandelier, a gorgeous physical manifestation of the shattering royal household.
Beautiful costumes - the sheepskin coats the guards wore were so gorgeous I wanted to take one home - and acting which transcended a language barrier made for a fantastic production from a brilliant theatre company.
