Macbeth (Polish) @ Globe Theatre
Globe2Globe Festival
An Interesting, if somewhat unsettling experience, I enjoyed it, though.
Garishly adapted, this version of the Scottish Play - done in a dramatic Polish - had something to turn every audience member off at least once. An interesting piece which plunges the play further into darkness than I've seen before, we were immersed into what seemed to be a seedy world of sex - consensual or not - drag queens (the witches) miming club songs (Nancy Sinatra and I will survive) and the men of the outfit intent on taking their clothes off.
Though the play did cut some of the more critical plot points (for example the prophecy of Man not born of Woman) it seemed to work, and the acting and entertaining musical routines held it together well enough for it to be an interesting if somewhat unsettling experience. I did enjoy it, though.
